Today we visited the premises of Rickshaw Delivery, who supply us with our pendulum necklaces, amongst other things. It was a very interesting experience as the companies founder; Divyesh (which appropriately means ‘light’ in Hindi), was the most exceptional character having started the business 20 years ago after working in I.T on Wall Street. He handles all the production and selling whilst his Canadian business partner, Isabelle, designs the products.
Divyesh lives with his wife in New Jersey, America for 5 months of the year, with the other 7 months being spent in India, South America and Brazil, sourcing stones and other raw materials for their products, and organising the production in India. There are 35 staff at the Noida Unit who cover dealing with the incoming raw materials, production, Q.C and packing. We met the 4 men; Sanjay, Sangam, Ajay and Rajesh who make our necklaces. For Divyesh the business is all about relationships – with his suppliers, staff, customers and community rather than the bottom line. He was super cool (and he bought us some Indian mossy repellent!)
